Our connection to Long Beach
GlobeVM is based in Los Angeles, and we gladly travel to Long Beach. One of our law office clients had a branch office here, so we know what it takes to support a site in this city.
A branch office has its own needs. It should have the same security as the main office, a secure connection to the firm's files, and the same number to call when something breaks. If your main office is elsewhere in Los Angeles County, we can run both sites as one setup. Our page on IT support for law firms covers client confidentiality and the rest of what law offices need.
Downtown Long Beach and the courthouse
Downtown Long Beach starts at Ocean Boulevard and runs north, with office buildings, the Civic Center and the restaurants of Pine Avenue. The Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse on Magnolia Avenue is a Los Angeles Superior Court building, which keeps law offices close by. Some older office buildings downtown are being turned into apartments, so firms here do move. An office move is a good time to fix a network that grew one cable at a time.
Law, accounting, insurance and real estate offices hold client files, and many send money by wire. Email fraud is a common threat: a fake invoice, or a hijacked mailbox that changes payment details. Email security, multi-factor sign-in and a call-back rule for any change to wire details stop most of it. Our guide to business email compromise shows how these scams work.
The port, logistics and the 710
The Port of Long Beach is the second-busiest container port in the United States, next to the Port of Los Angeles. A 2019 economic study linked about 51,000 jobs in the city to port activity. Freight forwarders, customs brokers, trucking firms and warehouses work around it and along the 710. These firms run on email, shipping documents and connections to carriers and terminals. When those stop, containers wait.
The port has seen this happen. In July 2018, a ransomware attack hit COSCO Shipping Lines' U.S. operations, and its local email and network phones failed. The Pier J terminal in Long Beach said cargo kept moving, and the port said the terminal's computer system was separate from COSCO's. For a smaller logistics firm the idea is the same: keep networks separate, protect email, test backups and have a way to keep working if the main system is down.
Rules are tightening too. Facilities covered by the Maritime Transportation Security Act now fall under a U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity rule. It took effect in July 2025, and cybersecurity plans are due by July 2027. Many smaller firms aren't covered directly, though the terminals they connect to may be. Your attorney can confirm what applies to you.
Aerospace suppliers near the airport
Long Beach built aircraft for decades at the Douglas and later Boeing plants by the airport. Douglas Park is a business park on former Boeing land, and rocket maker Relativity Space took over the old C-17 plant nearby. Rocket Lab also has its headquarters in Long Beach. The cluster is often called Space Beach.
Smaller machine shops, engineering firms and parts suppliers feed this work. When the work is for defense customers, contracts can bring in NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC terms. That means knowing where controlled information lives, limiting who can reach it and keeping shop floor machines apart from office systems. We help on the technical side. Your contract and your assessor decide what applies. Our manufacturing page covers each step.
Hospitals and medical offices
MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, Dignity Health St. Mary Medical Center and the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center are all in Long Beach. Physician, dental and therapy practices across the city work under HIPAA. For them, HIPAA compliance means a current risk analysis, encrypted laptops, secure messaging and backups that keep the schedule running. See IT for healthcare practices and dental offices.
Vault fires and a city that went offline
Southern California Edison supplies most of the city's power, and parts of its grid run through underground vaults. One vault fire near Broadway cut power to more than 20,000 customers across Alamitos Beach, Bluff Park and Belmont Shore, and many were still out the next morning. Battery backup for network gear, a second internet connection and files in the cloud let a team keep working from somewhere else. Our guide to backup internet explains the options.
In November 2023, the City of Long Beach took systems offline after a network security incident, and the City Council approved a local emergency proclamation. The city later confirmed that someone had reached its network, and said personal data may have been accessed. The review took 16 months. A small firm can't afford that kind of uncertainty. Good logs, threat detection and a written continuity plan make it faster to learn what happened and get back to work.
Bixby Knolls, Belmont Shore and Retro Row
Long Beach also has strong small business streets: Atlantic Avenue in Bixby Knolls, Second Street in Belmont Shore and Retro Row on 4th Street. Many of these shops take cards, run on a few laptops and have nobody whose job is IT. The basics matter most: a managed firewall, guest Wi-Fi kept apart from the register, protected email and PCI DSS basics for card payments.
How we work with Long Beach businesses
GlobeVM is based in Los Angeles. We travel to Long Beach when a job needs hands, such as new equipment, a failed switch or an office move. We don't promise a set arrival time, because the job, the hour and traffic on the 405 and the 710 all affect it. Most problems are fixed remotely, so you are often working again before a visit would matter. We schedule on-site work with you ahead of time.
Monitoring runs around the clock, handled by GlobeVM together with our partners. When you call, you reach a person in Los Angeles, often George Mansoor or Nazy Rafaeil, in English or Farsi. Our Los Angeles IT support page explains how we take over from a current provider.
